Electric Garage Heaters ~ Shop Heaters

JC Whitney - Everything Automotive

If your workplace is a shop in your garage or someone else's then you know just how uncomfortable it can be during the winter months, especially if you live in the Midwest or Northern states.

Generally these shops in garages are not warm or heated by a home's central heating system. Having an electric shop heaters can make all the difference in the world while you are working.

Having worked in many different shops over the years with little to no warmth in them I can tell you first hand just how miserable it is when your hands are so cold the just won't work, or your feet and legs get so cold all you can do is shake. I wished for electric shop garage heaters almost everyday I worked in those shops. When I finally got a shop of my own, heating it became a top priority and electric shop and garage heaters were at the top of my list.

Workshop heaters are a safe and cost effective electric heating system, whether they are permanently mounted or the portable variety they are the perfect heating solution.

But beware, not all portable heaters are equal to one another. While a space heater can make your working area comfortable, many of the options available can mean the benefits are outweighed by the disadvantages. There are many portable shop units that run on kerosene, propane or oil, they warm a shop very well but they also require ventilation, thus making them less cost efficient. With the cost of natural gas and oil rising every year it makes the electric shop heaters much more practical.

Since electric shop heaters run on electricity, they require no ventilation. There are also electric shop heaters that can be permanently mounted in garages and shops that are equally efficient. These more permanent models are generally heavy-duty, steel units equipped with powerful fans and stainless steel heater elements. They can be attached to a wall or the ceiling, many can swivel so the warmth can be directed right where it is needed. They usually have hardware that will allow you to change the direction of the airflow either upward or down. Many come with an automatic shut off feature should the airflow every become restricted.

There is a wide range of electric shop heaters available on the market these days. Your choice really depends on the size of your shop or garage, the type of building it is and the amount of time you will be spending in it each day. Knowing all of this will help you to determine the exact size and model of unit you will need to have the right garage warmth. Electric shop heaters are the perfect heating solution.

Some of the other electrical energy units include the portable variety of heaters and the permanently mounted variety of electric garage and workshop heaters. While the portable electric shop heaters are economical for use in small shops or used occasionally they must not be left unattended and are typically not energy efficient. Portable heaters make a perfect shop and garage heater. Your garage or workshop will be warm and comfortable while you are in it. Also portable shop units can be taken with you if you are going to require some comfort and warmth.

Electric heating systems are generally the most convenient, safe and cost effective way to warm work areas such as garages, shops and workshops. They do have their benefits, here are some benefits at a glance:

1. Electric shop heaters run quietly, both the permanent and portable variety .

2. Electric shop heaters emit no dangerous carbon monoxide

3. Electric shop heaters are available in portable models for ease of use anywhere.

4. Electric shop heaters are available to be mounted from a wall or ceiling.

5. Electric shop heaters never need to be fueled.

One important decision you will have to make before actually purchasing your electric shop heater is to decide if you will want one with a blower or fan. These types will force the hot air out into the garage or workshop. Another type is the infrared radiant type that projects the warmth out in the direction it is facing heating all of the objects in the area first and then the air. Both warm an area very efficiently and are the perfect heating solution you just need to decide which will fit your needs the best.
